Welcome to Sped Decoded: Who I Am & 3 Quick Wins for Your IEP Journey

Starting your special education journey can feel overwhelming — the acronyms, the paperwork, the meetings, the decisions. As a parent or caregiver, you just want to make sure your child gets what they need to thrive. I see you — and that’s exactly why I created Sped Decoded.

🧡 Who I Am

Hi! I’m Lenesha, founder of Sped Decoded. I started this service to walk alongside families — especially Black families and those from marginalized communities — as they navigate the special education system.

My mission is simple: Help you feel seen, heard, and empowered to advocate for what your child deserves.

Whether you’re brand new to IEPs or deep into the process, I’m here to decode the jargon, explain your rights, and give you strategies that work in real life.

✨ 3 Quick IEP Wins You Can Use Right Now

Here are three simple yet powerful steps you can take today to feel more confident about your child's IEP:

1. Start a “Parent Wins” Notebook

Document every success, no matter how small — your child used a new strategy, stayed regulated, or had a great day with their support team. These wins can help inform progress, shape goals, and remind you that your advocacy is working.

2. Review Your Child’s Present Levels

This section of the IEP drives everything — goals, services, accommodations. Ask yourself:

Does this truly reflect who my child is and what they need?
If not, request an update before your next meeting.

3. Ask Questions Early — and in Writing

Never hesitate to email your questions to the IEP team ahead of time. It gives them time to prepare and helps you feel more in control.
Start with something like:

“Can you walk me through how progress is being monitored for [Goal]?”
